John Mastenbrook

Bio

I hope these images reveal the common humanity that we share with every person we encounter, even in cultures very different from our own. Our humanity comes dressed in the rich textures and colors of each unique culture.

Many of these photographs were taken as I wandered the streets and markets, and visited places of worship. In each place I found the people to be overwhelmingly kind, helpful, and respectful. This gracious treatment by strangers was particularly striking on a trip that found me in Israel, a land of Temples and Synagogues, Egypt, a land of Mosques, and Spain, a land of Cathedrals and Churches.

The people in these pictures are our neighbors in a world in which we have the opportunity to come to know, to understand, and to respect one another.

John Mastenbrook is a native of Fort Worth, who lives in Austin, after working for many years as a psychologist in Corpus Christi, Texas.
